Small Works 2024


Entry Photo Requirements

Image Name: lastnamefirstinitial_titleofpainting *All Lowercase, No Spaces* (ex: Anna Smith's painting named "Dog Spots" should be saved as smitha_dogspots.jpg)

Image Size: Hi-resolution digital images only are accepted. Images must be at least 1500px along the shortest side. File size should be around 1MB or larger. (ex: Anna Smith scaled her image to be 1500px x 2700px (5" x 9" at 300ppi.)

Image Type: Save the files as a .jpg or .jpeg file at "high" or "maximum" quality (10, 11 or 12).

YES: Artwork ONLY; In focus, uniformly lighted and undistorted; high-res; painted signatures are accepted.

NO: matting/framing; lighting on one side; glare; distortion; pixelation (low-res)/web images; digitally altered/enhanced, digital signatures.

Jack Richeson & Co., Inc. reserves the right to withhold awards if jurors deem submitted entries to be below minimum standards of excellence. Juror decisions are final.
Any images that do not meet these specifications may be disqualified and discarded without being considered by the jurors and the jury fee will be forfeit by the artist. These are the images that will be used if your art is selected for the exhibit book: Make sure they are good!

Artwork Requirements

Categories:
Oils, Oil Pastels and Acrylic
Other Media (Soft Pastels, Drawing/Dry Media, Watercolor, Gouache, Casein, Printmaking, etc.)

No photography, digital art (enhanced or created) or 3-D art/sculpture is allowed.

ARTWORK SIZE: Artwork may not exceed 144 sq. inches (height x width - not including framing) and may not weigh more than 30 lbs.

CREATION DATE: after January 1, 2022

Eligibility

  • Artists must be over age 18.
  • All work entered must be original in concept/execution.
  • No work done in a class, workshop or under supervision.
  • Any piece selected as a finalist in any Richeson75 competition may not be resubmitted.
  • Artwork may be resubmitted to other Richeson75 shows if the piece was not a finalist, and the piece still meets restrictions (size, show theme, produced in the last 2 years, etc.).
  • Employees of Jack Richeson & Co. may not enter Richeson75 competitions.

 


Awards

Only artwork actually shown in the gallery exhibit is eligible for awards.

  • Best In Show - $5,000 cash
  • 1st (each category) - $500 cash plus a $1,000 certificate certificate for art materials from Jack Richeson & Co.
  • 2nd (each category) - $250 cash plus a $500 certificate for art materials from Jack Richeson & Co.

 



In Gallery Shows

Sales

Work need not be for sale to be eligible for the exhibition. Richeson School of Art & Gallery will make every effort to encourage sale of work available for purchase. Finalists will receive a consignment agreement. Works will be for sale unless noted as NFS [not for sale] on the entry form. Richeson Art School and Gallery will retain a 25% commission for all sales of work from this exhibition. Payment for sales will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the close of the exhibit.

Presentation

All entries must be suitably framed and wired for hanging (no clips or saw-tooth hangers). Gallery-Wrap canvas or cradled panel is acceptable as long as the sides are neatly painted/finished. Gallery-Wrap canvas must have a depth of 1-1/2" to 2". No staples can be visible on the sides of the canvas.

Delivery/Shipping

Works on paper must be framed with glass (Plexiglas recommended). Finalists will ship or deliver works to Richeson School of Art & Gallery for the Awards Exhibit. Shipped work must be sent in a reusable container. The artist is responsible for the cost of shipping to and from Richeson's. Pre-paid labels or a credit card number for return shipping must be included in the shipping container with the artwork. INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CUSTOMS CHARGES/DUTIES and the appropriate forms for the return of their artwork must be included in the shipping container.

Liability

For in-gallery exhibits, Artists should insure their hand-delivered or shipped work, as Jack Richeson & Co., Inc. and/or its subsidiaries is not liable for damage to artwork in transit or during display at Richeson School of Art & Gallery.

Everything Else

Entries & Jury Fees

Only online submissions are accepted. Entry form must be filled out and files uploaded with entry form. Mailed or delivered entries on CD/DVD are NOT accepted.
Artists may enter up to 6 works. A maximum of 3 artworks per artist can be selected as finalists.
Entry fee is $40 for the first entry and $10 per additional entry. (ex: if you enter 5 artworks, the entry fee would be $40 + 4*$10 for a total of $80.)

By deciding to enter this competition, the artist acknowledges that the entry fee is used for jurying and is non-refundable.

Image Use

By entering this competition, the artist gives the Richeson School of Art and Gallery the right to use submitted images for Richeson75 digital, print and web promotions.

Awards Jurying

The Awards Juror for this competition is to be announced. Awards will be selected from the digital images submitted upon entry to the competition.

Preliminary Jurying

Selection of finalists will be based on digital images. Finalists will be selected by a committee of qualified art professionals. Awards Jurors will be respected, highly qualified artist/instructors, curators or collectors of note. Awards Juror(s) will view the submitted digital images to make his/her award selections.

Show/Exhibition

Finalists will be featured in the richeson75.com Online Gallery.

Award Restrictions

Merchandise awards have no cash value. Standard shipping for merchandise in the contiguous 48 United States is included in the prize, but charges for remote delivery, special delivery or international deliveries are the responsibility of the winner/participant.

Other Conditions

Artists agree to abide by all contest rules by their entry. Failure to comply with these rules in any manner constitutes withdrawal from the competition. If Jack Richeson & Co., Inc. deems the pool of entrants insufficient, the competition will be cancelled and all jury fees will be returned to entrants. This Prospectus shall be governed as to validity, interpretation, construction, effect, and in all other respects by the laws and decisions of the State of Wisconsin, without regards to its conflict-of-law provisions. The Artist hereby irrevocably consents to the jurisdiction of the courts of Outagamie County, Wisconsin with respect to any matter arising under this Security Agreement, and further irrevocably consents to service of process by hand delivery to the address listed above for the Artist.
