BEST IN SHOW GOES TO....
RICHARD BRODERICK FOR "ERIC POLK"  Oil

Awards Juror Anita Louis West's Comments on "Eric Polk":
Excellent concept - mysterious subject.  The knee raised to juxtapose the head and to bring the viewer's eye around is an exciting compositional diagonal.  The drawing and light and shadow are beautifully painted.  Bravo!!

First Place
Dry Media: Jessica - Pastel - Jean Hildebrant
Beautiful subject with traditional feel.  The white dress is colorful within the local color.

2nd place Dry Media -
Sleeping - graphite - Sara Marina
Sensitive subject and handling of the medium.  The close up brings intimacy to the piece.

First place Water Media -
Surround Sound - watercolor - Natalie Smythe
Beautifully rendered with an exciting subject.  The metal surfaces are exceptionally well-painted. The figure plays as a good contrast.

2nd place Water Media -
Drumming Circle: Warrior's Son - Anne Merkley
While the subject is rather symmetrical and static, it makes a statement.  The black hat and vest add a contemporary punch to a traditional approach.

First Place Oils - Triple Self Portrait - Oil- Ron Sanders
This is an ambitious painting that makes an emotional statement.  Designing the background studio could be tricky and is handled well.

2nd Place Oils - Lidia - Oil - Juan Martinez
The painting offers beautiful skin tones and the pose is demure and lovely.  The sensitivity of the light and shadow is expertly done.

Honorable Mentions were:

HM - Jaqueline - Oil - Judith Edelman
This loosely-done painting has lots of energy.
I like the emphasis on active brushwork and
bright colors.

HM - Dry Media - Sales Pitch - Olivette Hubler
Lively intense color that represents the subject.
Painterly approach is refreshing.

HM - Self Portrait with Tape - Watercolor -
Kevin French
This piece is an exciting concept and well-done painting
with a twist of 'not seeing."
